TYPICAL YEAR OUTLINE
While each year is different, this timeline gives a great snapshot of what a typical year looks like at the Pack level. There will be monthly Pack Hikes sprinkled in. Extra opportunities to camp along the way. And, of course, your grade-level den meetings to achieve adventure ranks.
August: Pool Party! – Back To School Beach Party at Centennial Beach
September: Camp Out – Pack Campout at Von Oven Scout Reservation, Downtown Naperville
October: Hayride – Pack Hayride & Bon Fire w/ S’mores: We rotate between Danada, Seagar Park Knoch Knolls
November: Carnival Games – Our Pack meeting returns indoors to Beebe Gym with a Carnival hosted by the Bear Den that year
December: Caroling & Pack Meeting – We return to Beebe gym for Popcorn Fundraising, rewards (did someone say Pie in the Face?) We also head to a local nursing home to sing carols and make spirits bright!
January: Pinewood Derby – The month of our annual Pinewood Derby races! Scouts are provided a car – parents and siblings can also design a car for their own race heats. We’ll also set a date for a “build day” to help Scouts cut and assemble their dream car.
February: Blue & Gold Banquet – In this month, we typically “scout for food”, collecting items for local food banks. We also host our Blue & Gold banquet this month – we celebrate our graduating 5th grade Scouts who will move on to a local Scout Troop of their choice. Food and entertainment provide a great time.
March: Indoor Overnight – Who’s ready for a museum overnight!? We alternate each year between great experiences in the city of Chicago (Shedd, Field, MSI) and options closer to home (SciTech, DCM, etc). This is the month of our annual “Camp IN”
April: New Family Welcome! – As spring develops, we invite new and interested families to join us back at the Beebe Gym for an evening of learning about Cub Scouts as well as entertainment like magic acts, bicycle stunts, and STEM presentations. Invite friends with you to join in your Scout Adventures!
May: Bon Fire – “End of Year” bon fire + s’mores. We celebrate rank advancements with a Bon Fire, story-telling, and…of course…s’mores.
June: Day Camps & Fishing Derby –Scout Day Camp/s – we usually take advantage of our Council-offered Day Camps. They are hosted at several locations through the summer and we usually aim for June at Von Oven Scout Reservation in DT Naperville. Also on the agenda – Our Pack Fishing Derby. We host a fishing derby with lots of help to get everyone on the water – even if it’s your first time. Usually happens on a Saturday morning in June.
July: Rocket Launch – What’s better in the month we celebrate our INDEPENDENCE than launching a bunch of rockets out to space!? Each Scout is provided a rocket kit to design their ship and provided with several free launches – but scouts and siblings can ultimately launch their rocket as many times as the want.
August: Welcome Back – And we’re back where we began. We’ll host a Scouting-year opener at Beebe, welcoming new and interested families to join us for our first meeting of the year which usually involves some awesome entertainment the Scouts will LOVE.
