Klondike gives Webelos Scouts (4th and 5th Grade Cubs) the chance to forge their way among older Scout Troops in the winter elements of the mid-west. They compete in challenges that test their life-skills, leadership abilities, and …of course… their Scout Spirit! This year’s Den 4 Webelos Scouts did an amazing job.
Because of Covid, we were limited to 6 Scouts and 2 leaders. Adam, Min-Gu, Neel, Owen, Kellen, and Damian put in hard work before Klondike on Feb 6th, learning knots, how to build a fire, and coming up with Patrol name, flag, and Yell (FLY EAGLES, FLY!)
The event was held at Cantigny and was only slightly modified to adhere to local guidelines regarding Covid. Masks were worn, distance was made, but all the fun remained. The temperatures hovered around 10 degrees and it started snowing heavily toward the end. As their Den Leader, I was very proud of all of their effort and ability to adapt. FLY EAGLES, FLY!
On the agenda: Knots, First Aid, Signaling, Fire Starting, Bear Bags, AXE THROWING!, Team Building, Sled Race, Lashings.
We placed 2nd overall in Webelos – many didn’t even attend because it was so cold. Way to go team!
